London 2012 Olympic Stadium complete, Frank Fredericks lays final piece of grass to complete construction

Namibian icon and Chairman of the IOC Athletes' Commission and Olympian Frank Fredericks, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) chairman John Armitt, London 2012 chair Seb Coe and 400m hurdles 2012 hopeful Tasha Danvers laid the last piece of turf on the Olympic Stadium's field of play, marking the completion of construction on the flagship venue.

Chairman of the IOC Athletes' Commission and Olympian Frank Fredericks said: 'Athletes that have spent a lifetime training for their Olympic dream deserve to be able to achieve it in the best possible conditions. I believe that those competing here in 2012 will not be disappointed. I would like to congratulate everyone involved in the construction of London's Olympic Stadium for producing a truly outstanding sporting arena. When filled with fans at Games time, I am certain that the atmosphere will drive many of the competitors to achieve new personal bests and create unique moments of Olympic history.'
Frank Fredericks is a four-time Olympic silver medalist, having finished second in the 100 and 200 metres at Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996. He is the current Chairman of the IOC Athletes' Commission. The Commission serves as a consultative body and is the link between active athletes and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Commission represents athletes within the Olympic Movement and also upholds the rights and obligations of the athletes. Fredericks is also a member of the IOC Coordination Commission for London 2012
