Application for Emergency Travel Documents (ETD)

Please note: Emergency Travel Document is not accepted if flying via South Africa.

Emergency Travel Documents are provided to Namibian citizens, and children born abroad who need to travel urgently and whose passports are expired, damaged or lost. Children (born to Namibian parent/s) who don't have Namibian Citizenship are eligible to apply for an ETD.

AN ETD IS ISSUED FOR AN EMERGENCY ONE-WAY RETURN TO NAMIBIA ONLY AND IS ONLY VALID FOR FIVE DAYS FROM THE DATE OF ISSUE, INCLUDING WEEKENDS AND PUBLIC HOLIDAYS.

Contact the High Commission before purchasing flight tickets.

Please check the list of required documents carefully before you visit the High Commission and bring your copies and originals with you. The application forms can be downloaded online and completed at the High Commission in London.

​REQUIREMENTS:

• Completed application form (IN CAPITAL LETTERS AND IN BLACK INK)

• A clear copy of flight ticket 

• A clear copy of current Namibian passport (when damaged or expired)

• A clear copy of Namibian Identity document /ID (both sides)

• A clear copy of Namibian Birth Certificate

• A clear copy of Citizenship Certificate (if born abroad)

• 2 Identical passport size photos (UK standard, maximum 3 months old) :

1. Size: 45mm x 35mm

2. White background

3. No reflection on eyes (no spectacles: remove the spectacles)

4. No hair/fringe on the forehead

5. No head covering, cloth or Alice band on the head

6. No facial piercings (men & women), earrings, chains, no cornrows or plaited hair (for men)

7. ​Individuals with dreadlocks should not cover their ears

8. Ears and neck should appear

9. Shoulders must be covered

• For lost passports, a police report is required. (Reports are done online at https://www.reportmyloss.com/uk/register).

• Proof of online payment (or pay at the High Commission)

Requirements for a Minor born in the UK, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Malta and Greece.

• Biological parents of the Minor should make the application IN PERSON.

• Non-Namibian parents MUST submit a letter of consent, a certified copy of their Birth Certificate and all other documents:

• Copy of flight ticket;

• Copy of the passports of parents;

• Copy of the birth certificates of parents;

• Copy of the Namibian Identity document of parents. If either parent is not a Namibian citizen, a copy of the Namibian parent should still be provided.

Exceptions: If one of the parents is deceased, this fact must be stated. Where the consent is given by the guardian the circumstances of guardianship are to be stated.

​

If, as a result of special circumstances (e.g., the absence of a parent) it is not possible to complete the certificate, written consent in an alternative form (e.g., a letter from the absent parent) will be accepted, or a consent letter from legal authority (e.g., a letter of full custody from the court).

If a parent (or guardian) withholds his/her consent or if, for some sound reason, such consent cannot be obtained, an explanation should accompany the application. Any court order in respect of the custody of the child must be forwarded with an explanation.

Each case will be considered on its own merits.
