Application for Namibian Citizenship
REQUIREMENTS FOR NAMIBIAN CITIZENSHIP FOR CHILDREN BORN ABROAD TO NAMIBIAN PARENT/S
-
All children born abroad must FIRST apply for Registration of Birth before applying for Namibian Citizenship.
-
Once the Registration of Birth is issued, the applicant can apply for Namibian citizenship. If the applicant’s parents were not Namibian at the time of birth, they must first seek confirmation of citizenship from the Ordinary Residence Committee (ORC) and meet its requirements. Being born in Namibia to non-Namibian parents does not guarantee automatic citizenship, as the Ministry of Home Affairs is correcting past errors. Once the parents’ citizenship is confirmed, the applicant can then register their birth and apply for Namibian citizenship.
-
In short, three steps should be taken:
-
Application to the ORC for confirmation of citizenship if the applicant’s parents were born to non-Namibian parents.
-
Application for Registration of Birth (This is the first step for applicants whose parents were born to Namibian parents)
-
Application for Citizenship.
-
-
Email address: applicants must provide a correct email address so that the High Commission can contact the applicant once the document is received from the Ministry of Home Affairs in Namibia. The email is used only for this purpose.

-
No photographs/screenshots of documentation taken on a phone will be accepted by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Ensure that clear photocopies of documents are submitted with applications.
